New Results on the Direct Observations of Thermal Radio Emission from a Solar Coronal Mass Ejection

چکیده
We report observations of thermal emission from the frontal structure a coronal mass ejection (CME) using data obtained with Gauribidanur RAdioheliograPH (GRAPH) simultaneously at 80 MHz and 53 on 2016 May 1. The CME was due to activity far-side Sun, but near its limb. No non-thermal radio burst were noticed. This provided an opportunity observe faint CME, hence directly estimate electron density, mass, magnetic field strength plasma entrained in CME. Considering that CMEs are mostly observed only whitelight reports their characteristics also limited, rare direct independent diagnosis parameters important measurements physics.

Synchrotron Radio Emission from a Fast Halo Coronal Mass Ejection
An interplanetary (IP) type-II-like radio burst is analyzed. It occurred on 2003 June 17-18 in association with a fast halo coronal mass ejection (CME), an M6.8 soft-X-ray (SXR) flare, and produced a solar proton event. Unlike coronal type II bursts and the majority of IP type II radio emissions, the IP type-II-like event associated with the fast halo CME on June 17-18 varies smoothly in time a...
متن کاملRadio observations of a coronal mass ejection induced depletion in the outer solar corona
We report the first low frequency radio observations of a depletion that occurred in the outer solar corona in the aftermath of the CME event of 1986 June 5, with the large E-W one dimensional grating interferometer at the Gauribidanur radio observatory. We estimated the mass loss associated with the depletion and found that it agrees well with the value obtained through white light observation...
متن کاملRadio Observations of Gyroresonance Emission from Coronal Magnetic Fields
We review the basic characteristics of thermal gyroresonance (also known as cyclotron) emission from solar active regions, and show how radio observations combined with our understanding of the basic mechanism can reveal much of the magnetic and thermal structure of the corona over active regions.
متن کاملShock-related radio emission during coronal mass ejection lift-off? (Research Note)
Aims. We identify the source of fast-drifting decimetric–metric radio emission that is sometimes observed prior to the so-called flare continuum emission. Fast-drift structures and continuum bursts are also observed in association with coronal mass ejections (CMEs), not only flares. Methods. We analyse radio spectral features and images acquired at radio, Hα, EUV, and soft X-ray wavelengths, du...
متن کاملStudying geoeffective interplanetary coronal mass ejections between the Sun and Earth: Space weather implications of Solar Mass Ejection Imager observations
[1] Interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs) are the primary cause of severe space weather at Earth because they drive shocks and trigger geomagnetic storms that can damage spacecraft and ground-based systems. The Solar Mass Ejection Imager (SMEI) is a U. S. Air Force experiment with the ability to track ICMEs in white light from near the Sun to Earth and beyond, thus providing an extended...
